How To Paint Louvered Vinyl Exterior Shutters
This tutorial explains how to paint brand new painted vinyl exterior shutters and is not intended or recommended for the type of PVC exterior shutters or repainting old exterior shutters. You must have the components of the quality of paint for this procedure to work properly.
First you must decide by brush or paintbrush. We recommend using a spray paint the exterior vinyl shutters, as a result will be more consistent.
What follows is a selection of paint. There are three basic choices to consider and the choice you make is very personal, and the style of your home:
1. Outside matte painting
2. Satin / gloss paint
3. High gloss paint
The choice of quality plastic paint is different from the paint used to paint the wood. If you are sprayed or brushed, we always recommend that you use relatively inexpensive paintings. I recommend this for two reasons. First, you will not have to deal with moisture problems so that the thickness of paint film is not important. Second, high-quality paints are more globular and designed for use with a roller, which makes the paint too thick for even spraying. Remember that plastic product is inert and will not absorb or release moisture vapor to protect against the elements is secondary.
Priming depends on the exact type of substrate to work with. If the material is a copolymer of styrene and Mid-America brand (one color No. 30) or a copolymer of high quality components such as Alcoa or other product Vintage pre-painted, and if you use an outdoor paint latex flat , you get an excellent adhesion without primer.
If you use anything other than flat latex always prime the surface of exterior vinyl shutters first. The paint supply store will have inexpensive primer (primer is fine) and it still does not have to be of high quality that it is only to provide a key to your top layer of paint.
Follow the instructions carefully so that the guideline of the color temperature can give better results.
You will need the following to start:
1. A pair of sawhorses (or two large boxes)
2. A drop sheet (plastic or cloth)
3. Equal numbers of cardboard boxes for the number of blanking panels to paint outdoors (the boxes are for storing freshly painted panels to fill any drying)
4th Spray paint or brush a two-inch and a half inch brush
5. Paper towels or clean cloth
6. Respirator if recommended by the paint manufacturer
Well, time for Picasso to go to work.
Open the blinds blinds pose a great challenge due to the angle of the blades and the consequent difficulty of obtaining complete coverage. If you do not "address space between the slats and installing exterior shutters at the same level or more after installing your vinyl shutters painted areas will be visible behind the bars.
If you spray before the shutter vinyl coating used in the test area, even spray pattern and ensure that the weapon is functioning properly. Side of the cardboard boxes drying works well for this. Painted shutters vinyl trellis, lay the panel down and begins to hold the spray gun at 45 different angles, then point the nozzle directly into the cavity batten. Spray with even strokes, and before beginning the finishing area, and always follow through the area paint. Go to the other side and repeat. Always ensure adequate coverage of the paint on the outer surface of the damper before going to the next step. Even if the window is closed, it's a good idea to paint the edges, so that they are adequately funded. I've always been amazed at the edges of the patch, if you do not do this.
If you are brushing, you need to improve for the job. Paint generously between the slats, making sure the paint also the sides of the road about half an inch. Paint the edges with a brush while the shutter is upside down is a good plan too.
Turn the outer window pane over. You do not have to wait for paint to dry, then back out of the shutter is recessed and will not rest directly against the carton.
If spraying, use the same angle of the weapon you used on the back of the slats in the blinds and spray chambers on both sides. Then go to the bottom edge of the shutter and the exterior angle of the weapon that you can paint Bullnose (edge of the grid). Hold gun at about half past one degree angle and spray from one side to the other in straight lines, again the spray paint in your area to ensure that the finish is applied evenly. The next step is to go to the top of the shutter and spray in the face of the blade. This will keep the weapon at an angle of ninety-able to the lamellae (perpendicular to the fins), again during the spraying of paint in your area. Re-spray paint the edges and Stiles (vertical bars). Finish with another layer, inspect, and re-shoot if necessary.
Brushing is quite obvious and requires little other than to use both thumbs to brush painting. Be sure to inspect the edge of the outer flaps for complete coverage and covers you actually triggers out completely.
Move the newly painted vinyl shutters on one of the boxes you have created for painted shutters to dry and repeat until all the vinyl exterior shutters are painted.
